The practice house, more formally known as the Home Economic demonstration house, was the former Elon Community Church of Christ parsonage. The house was moved in from the corner of Williamson and Haggard Avenues to West College Avenue.

As many as six Home Economic majors and one house mom could live, work, and study in the practice house for six weeks. The house was a supplement to the department located in Alamance. Most of the furniture was donated by Elon College alumni. During each week of training, residents practiced living on low, moderate, and high income levels.

They would take turns serving as the hostess, the housekeeper, and cook. The students would host guests for meals to practice skills like hospitality. Mary G.
