Sure, there are many other bean options available to be put on a subscription, but La Colombe also offers its popular ready-made cold brew and draft lattes.

The cold brew is available in the gallon size with the fridge tap, the ounce concentrate bottle, or the single-serve 9-ounce size in 12 or 24 packs.

Fellow makes a great choice for gifting because it seamlessly blends style and substance with its chic wares and selection of bestselling beans.

With beans from award-winning roasters and an assortment of swanky gear, giving the gift of coffee has never been more luxurious.

Subscriptions can either be shipped every two weeks or every four weeks at your discretion. With detailed tasting notes and an extensive selection, Madcap Coffee is a great option for those who want to develop their palates with some truly unique roasts.

The roasters at Madcap Coffee want their customers to appreciate their coffee on a level typically associated more with wine culture than your morning brew. Each listing includes the flavors that you will find in each cup, with appealing descriptions of brown sugar, citrus, and floral notes.

Subscription options are extensive, and you can choose to have regular deliveries of bestsellers or have the team at Madcap choose for you. If you're a fan of a good, smooth cold brew, then La Colombe may be the pick for you. And if you want coffee varietals as unique as individual bottles of wine, you may want to consider Madcap Coffee.

Whatever your preferences may be, the choices on this list will keep you well-supplied with high-quality coffee. Our favorite coffee subscription services typically roast and ship every weekday as a way to ensure freshness and quality; however, you can usually select your delivery frequency.

Most services offer weekly, biweekly, or monthly options, and some will even ship to you less frequently at your own discretion. We independently selected and evaluated multiple coffee subscription services to determine which has the most to offer its customers and our readers.

This subscription service is brought to you by the same people who make the VacOne coffee brewer , which we gave high marks to when we reviewed it.

But you don't need a special brewer to fully enjoy these beans; I drink mine using a pour-over method. Atlas delivers great single-origin beans from all over the world.

Unlike Trade Coffee, it roasts those beans itself in Austin, Texas, and gets them to your door shortly thereafter.

The subscription options are simpler than Trade. You can choose between light-to-medium or medium-to-dark roasts—or if you feel like exploring, choose both. We did the latter and have now sampled beans from six countries. Each arrived on time, nicely packaged, complete with some notes about the country of origin.

WIRED reviews editor Julian Chokkattu subscribed to Atlas for more than two years and very much enjoyed his experience, even if he's run through nearly all of its countries more than twice over. You may get some beans you aren't as fond of, because Atlas is an exploratory experience. To us, this is part of the fun, but if you're looking for a subscription that's very dialed-in and exactly matches your tastes, this may not be the best choice.

That said, we have yet to encounter a coffee we thought was bad —even beans some of our staff aren't fond of, like a medium-roast Guatemalan, were still excellent quality beans and well roasted.

Out of all the coffee subscriptions we've tried, Angel's Cup has my favorite twist: blind taste testing. Every time a coffee arrives, it's in an unmarked black bag. After you've decided whether you like a coffee or not, you can look it up in the Angel's Cup app—that's when you'll find out what you're drinking.

It's a good way to see what you really like without preconceived notions getting in the way. Angel's Cup is more like a distance-learning coffee school than a box subscription service. WIRED senior reviewer Scott Gilbertson strongly recommends giving the Black Box subscription a try.

You will learn what you actually like and dislike about coffee, along with some education through the app, roaster's notes, and notes from fellow tasters.

Grounds and Hounds offers small-batch roasted blends and single-origin coffee, with 20 percent of its profits going to benefit animal shelters. The brand has some of my personal favorite coffees, especially the dark roasts.

Try the Snow Day Winter Roast when it's available. There are two kinds of subscriptions at Grounds and Hounds—a traditional plan where you pick what you'd like to try, and a gift plan if you're buying for someone else.

As soon as we found what we liked, we switched the subscription to that bean. When you sign up, Grounds and Hounds will let you know how your money is helping animal shelters. In the case of a single bag, a weekly subscription provides roughly meals per year to shelters.

Subscription beans vs. locally roasted beans: These subscription services all produce killer coffee beans, and they all taste great.

But none of them taste better than coffee roasted locally. For the most flavorful coffee that has a direct impact on your community, you're best served by looking up local coffee roasters—whether that's a café in the same city, state, or geographical region.

Coffee is at its best shortly after roasting. The longer it stays on a shelf or on a delivery truck, the less flavorful it'll be. Plus, ordering coffee locally minimizes the environmental impact of having stuff shipped from across the country or across the continent.

The best way to do that is by heading to your local coffee shop and having a look at what coffee they serve.

They might even roast and sell their own! How we tested, and how you should: To test these subscriptions, we brewed each bag in different ways to see which beans were best suited to which brewing method.

It's worth doing the same if you have access to different brewing methods, especially if you opt for a subscription that offers a lot of variety. A roast that makes a great shot of espresso does not necessarily make the best pour-over coffee.

In the same vein, take notes on what you like and dislike. Several of these services have very nice websites where you can record your notes and mark particular coffees you liked.

Take advantage of these features, because you will probably forget. The coffee never stops coming with these subscriptions, which is both a blessing and a curse.

If you'd like some more pointers, be sure to read our guide to brewing better coffee at home. Let's destigmatize decaf: Coffee aficionados are a fickle bunch, and they tend to like dunking on people who drink decaf. But here's the thing: Decaf can be good. Yes, the decaffeination process changes the flavor, and yes, you often miss out on delicate floral notes.

It's unfair to exclude people from enjoying coffee, period, and talking smack about decaf coffee can also be ableist. Drinking caffeinated coffee all day can seriously impact your sleep, and some people can't tolerate caffeine for medical reasons or just don't like the way it makes them feel or the way it interacts with certain medications.

Coffee is for everyone! There is such a thing as good decaf, and three of our favorite services on this list offer a selection of decaffeinated coffee Trade, Mistobox, and Cometeer. Even if you're a caffeine fiend, it can be nice to unwind with a cup of decaf in the evening—it's especially well suited for mixed espresso drinks, where typically bold chocolatey and smokey notes can really bring a mocha to life.

Even in a French press or pour-over context, decaf or a blend of decaf and caffeinated beans is a good pick for afternoon coffee service. No need to worry about afternoon jitters or insomnia. So far I have tasted 3 of them. Each is very good, but I am finding that I prefer the stronger flavors. The Roaster's Choice was rich, dark and delicious. I also enjoyed the Brazil Canaan Estate with is surprising flavor that must be the sweet cookie dough.

Thanks very much! Out of the four blends, the Mexican coffee was our favorite. It was the first we tried and went back to until it was gone. The other three blends were good but weren't favorites for a variety of reasons. Again nothing wrong with them, just not our preference. Ultimately they were either similar to other coffees we've tried and moved on from or just a little out of our taste.

But going back to the Mexican Blend, it was so sooo good iced or hot, Percolator or french press. Ultimately this box was a great curation of different blends and I think everyone would probably find a favorite helping to guide your future coffee selections.

It was always fun to see what we would get. When I received my coffee beans the shipping package and coffee bag were slit open and beans were everywhere. I contacted customer service and they sent a replacement right away.

Thanks Bean Box! Love the rich dark flavor and aroma! Completely satisfied as we have been with all of our selections. This is the third box and it's another great blend.

Came on time and was great ". It's great to be able to send a new and interesting blend every month. It's been two months now and I hear good things.

It is always exciting to see what coffee will arrive each month. The coffee never disappoints. It is always fresh and a great way to try new roasts that I probably would not try otherwise. I was surprised that I was already billed for the entire 6 month monthly delivery s all the other subscriptions bill me each month when item is shipped.

The coffee arrived a few days after Christmas which is how I planned it, I wanted him to get the email on Christmas about the gift which was much faster than I anticipated.

This was a Xmas gift for my husband. He's the coffee brewer and drinker in our house. He seemed pleased with the gift. He says it smells wonderful. He will update me when he makes himself a cup. Well last year tried a different coffee subscription program.

When I mentioned coffee subscription gift they informed to please go back to Bean Box as they really enjoyed your coffee. It is a great way to try new coffees. Definitely the best! Nice and bold with a hint of vanilla!! Share Your Experience ×.
